About Lassen

Deep, moderately well drained soils formed in mudflow deposits (lahars) and alluvium derived from andesitic volcanic rocks. Found on alluvial fans and terraces at 3,500–5,500 ft elevation on the flanks of the Cascade volcanic peaks.

California Distribution

Named for Lassen Peak and widespread in Lassen County on the volcanic mudflow aprons. Also occurs in Plumas County on similar terrain. Used for irrigated pasture and dry grain farming.
