About Winfield

Moderately deep, well drained soils formed in material weathered from tuff, andesite, and basalt with significant volcanic ash influence in the upper profile. Found on lava plateaus and volcanic uplands at 4,000–6,000 ft elevation.

California Distribution

Extensive on the Modoc Plateau and Cascade Range volcanic terrane in Modoc and Lassen counties. Supports ponderosa pine and juniper woodland; used for range and timber production.
